Answers for Your Dental Care Questions

Do you accept new patients?

As new patients you are very welcomed in our practice. Please be aware your first visit may take up to an hour for our comprehensive examination.

This is the opportunity for us to make a thorough examination of your mouth, which includes:

  • Reviewing your medical and dental history
  • Listening to your concerns
  • Checking your gums and teeth
  • Checking your bite
  • Checking your jaw joint function
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Charting your teeth and shade
  • Taking X-rays
  • Discussing findings and treatment plans
  • Will I see a different dentist every visit?

Dr Helen Nguyen is the sole principal dentist at Macarthur Dental. You will be seeing and treated by Dr Helen Nguyen at every visit.

Do I need to have xrays?

We would recommend a minimum of two xrays be taken once every two years. Xrays help to detect problems beneath the surface of the teeth and gums that may not be visible to the naked eyes by visual examination. For examples:

    • Tooth decay
    • Abscesses, cysts, and tumours.
    • Bone lost from around teeth associated with severe gum disease.
    • Tooth and bone fractures following an accident or injury causing damage to the face or mouth.
    • The location of teeth in relation to nerves, sinuses, and other facial structures.
    • Extra teeth, missing teeth, and teeth that are blocked from moving into the mouth, called impacted teeth.
    • Issues with past dental treatment.

X-rays allow us to plan for dental procedures, such as fillings, dental implants, orthodontic treatment, denture fabrication, root canal treatment and removing a tooth (extraction).

Do you process health fund claims in your practice?

For your convenience we can claim your health fund rebate on the spot so all you have to take care of on the day is the gap payment.

The amount of rebate paid by your health fund will depend on the level of cover that you have taken out with your health insurance company. Please contact your health fund directly to confirm the details of your cover as all health insurance policies are different and coverage for dental services may vary.

What kind of payment methods do you accept?

We accept a wide range of payment methods including cash, EFTPOS, VISA, Mastercard, AMEX. We do not surcharge merchant fee with any credit card payments.

How often should I go for my check-up and clean?

We recommend that you have your check up and clean every six months to allow early detection of dental decay and gum disease which means treatment is simple and less costly.

At Macarthur Dental, our Continuing Care Program makes it easier for our patients to return for their regular 6 monthly visit.

Do you send a confirmation for my appointment?

It is our practice protocol to send a courtesy confirmation between 24 to 48 hours via SMS and/or phone call prior to your appointment. However, we may at times not be able to reach you.

As this appointment time is reserved exclusively for your treatment it remains your responsibility to attend or reschedule with at least 24 hours' notice.

Which dental laboratory do you use?

We have chosen local laboratories in Rouse Hill and Campbelltown for all our crown, bridge and denture work. They are well known for their highly skilled workmanship and using quality brand name Therapeutic Goods Administration approved materials. We believe in supporting our local businesses.
